Australian Travel Insurers Extend Support During Middle East Conflict
Australian Travel Insurers Extend Support During Middle East Conflict
0
In response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, Australian travel insurers have mobilised additional resources to support affected travellers.
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) announced that insurers are providing dedicated 24/7 assistance, coordinating medical care, and prioritising support for those in impacted regions.
Insurers have extended policy coverage dates to accommodate customers affected by airport and airspace closures. Policyholders are encouraged to lodge claims if they have suffered losses, even if uncertain about their coverage. While exclusions for war and conflict are standard across most insurance products globally, insurers remain committed to supporting customers during this period.
To amplify industry support, the ICA has declared the Middle East conflict a Significant Event. This declaration facilitates a coordinated approach among insurers and policymakers to assess the insurance impact. An industry-wide taskforce has been established, and the ICA is working closely with the Federal Government and agencies to ensure a unified response for Australians affected.
Travellers are advised to follow the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade's Smartraveller website for updates and to stay in contact with their airline or travel agent regarding transport arrangements. Insurers emphasise the importance of safety and security for their customers and encourage those in transit or with upcoming travel plans to speak to their insurer if they have suffered a loss and believe they have a claim.
This proactive approach by Australian travel insurers underscores their commitment to providing comprehensive support and ensuring the well-being of travellers during times of geopolitical unrest.
